2 Killed, Several Injured in Bus Accident on I-10

A serious collision involving a passenger carrying bus and flat-bed tractor-trailer along Interstate 10 yesterday afternoon has resulted in at least 2 deaths and dozens of injuries, according to local officials. Here’s what we know about the accident so far:

  • The collision occurred around 12:30 pm Wednesday afternoon along the I-10 near Weimar, roughly 90 miles west of Houston, when a passenger bus operated by Transportes del Norte collided with a flat-bed truck.
  • Officials from the Texas Department of Public Safety, report that the driver of the bus and a passenger on board died in the collision. Dozens of passengers were injured and 10 passengers were reportedly taken to local hospitals for treatment.
  • The bus, which had left Laredo en route out of state, collided with the tractor-trailer on a stretch of highway where construction was taking place. Investigators believe slowed or even stopped traffic may have contributed to the crash.

Grupo Senda, the Mexican company that owns the passenger bus, has stated its fleet of busses complies with federal safety regulations and that its drivers are properly trained and qualified. While it is still early to speculate on the cause of this accident, investigators will likely be taken a meticulous look into the bus itself and the driver to ensure all requirements and regulations have been met.

At The Daspit Law Firm, our legal team understands the importance of keeping federal regulations in mind when investigating commercial truck and bus accidents. These companies are heavily regulated in order to keep passengers and public roadways safe. Should a bus or truck company violate these regulations, they can be held liable for the damages victims suffer.
